Fuel Saving Guide

posted Sunday, 22nd June 2008

Fitment of a DPT unit is one of several ways in which a driver can optimise their fuel consumption. Having fitted DPT it is important that drivers operate their vehicles appropriately to achieve the savings figures we indicate. Poor driving practices are a key reason for poor fuel consumption.

The following simple guidelines will help reduce your fuel consumption;

1. Avoid periods of prolonged engine idling, if you are likely to be stationary for 30 seconds or more switch the engine off when safe to do so and restart when ready to proceed.

2. Drive smoothly by avoiding over accelerating and speeding which result in increased requirement to use the brakes. Every time you press the brakes you are killing energy you have already used the fuel for. Driving at 70 mph used 10% ore fuel than at 60 mph.  Maybe by allowing 2 or 3 minutes extra for the trip to work you can reduce the speed at which you drive, or by going at a different time avoid the rush hour traffic. Where appropriate use cruise control which eliminates the effect of a “heavy foot”.

3. Change up to the next higher gear at a suitable rev level, for a diesel this is under 2000 rpm. If you are revving the engine higher you are driving un-economically. DPT will provide the flexibility to reduce gear changes by producing a more flexible torque range.

4. Remember anything your car has to do to “work” increase the fuel it uses. So do not carry unnecessary excess weight (Golf Clubs).  Likewise anything fitted to your car which causes “drag” will also reduce MPG, e.g. Roof Racks are said to cost as much as 5% in MPG, so if not in use remove it. Also imply having the window open causes drag.

5. Electrical products in the car requires power, including those considered part of the car, Lights, Radio ect and the car has to work extra to provide the power, thus reducing MPG. It is said that vehicle Air Conditioning reduces MPG by 10% so only use when required.

6. Keep your car in good condition. It’s simple a well maintained car runs better and is more economical. But also simple tasks like keeping tyre pressure correct all contribute to better MPG.

7. Plan your journey in advance where possible, select routes which will not encounter slow traffic and by knowing where you are going will not waste fuel driving unnecessary mileage.

Without preaching there are other ways such as walking for short journeys or car sharing where possible, but we are practical here at DPT and understand that you like us wish to be able to use your car when you want to. The simple guidelines above will help improve MPG. Remember if you reduce your MPG by 10% you also reduce your CO2 emissions by 10%.

Titan Travel - Our First Fleet

Tune Up DPT Dealer

One of our DPT installers had an enquiry from a large fleet operator looking to reduce the amount they spend on Diesel Fuel. Andrew Moorey of Tune Up in Surrey worked with Richard Baxter the fleet manager of Titan Travel a high quality award winning tour operator to provide improved MPG for their fleet of almost 200 VW T5 based mini buses. After a lengthy evaluation period during which Andrew used the support of DPT head office and Essing Dieseltuning, the manufacturers and developers of DPT, everybody involved was pleased to see consistent fuel savings of 8% on the fleet. Richard agreed to an initial order of 160 DPT units which have now been fully installed by Andrew.

Titan are already reaping the financial benefits of improved diesel MPG and are now talking to Andrew about other vehicles in their fleet. During the process several Titan employees have also bought into the savings in MPG which DPT can provide.

For Titan this is also a commitment to the environment as the 8% saving in MPG also means an 8% reduction in their CO2 emissions for their fleet. Not bad for a fully self financing carbon reduction system.

Fleet managers who wish to benefit in the same way from DPT please make contact we will happily arrange for your local installer to talk to about how we can generate meaningful fuel savings for your fleet, however large or small it may be, and how we can help you reduce your CO2 emissions too.

Upto 16% better Miles Per Gallon

Reduce CO2

Upto 16% better Miles Per Gallon

"If you operate a number of vehicles, which may be anything from a few company cars through to a large mix of cars and light commercial vehicles make contact with us. We will happily discuss the profile of your fleet and what you are looking to achieve. Our experience to date has been that most fleet managers are simply trying to reduce their fuel overhead, although some have used DPT to provide additional power for load handling. With savings of up to 16% possible an investment in DPT units could prove to be a very low cost means of reducing this overhead. DPT units may simply be removed, reprogrammed (if necessary) and transferred to subsequent vehicles as fleet vehicles are replaced.

Our national network of installers means that if your vehicles are spread throughout the UK , this does not prevent you from benefiting. DPT may be installed at separate locations convenient for your business and fleet drivers.

We anticipate that very soon most diesel vehicles will be fitted with DPT type units to help reduce overhead, reduce carbon emissions and benefit more from the power their fleet is capable of providing. If you are a fleet manager, please contact us today. We are of course prepared to offer improved buying terms to volume buyers."

DPT on TV:

Priced Off Our Roads

posted Monday, 30th June 2008

Broadcast on 30th June 2008, an ITV  Tonight programme called Priced Off Our Roads, presented by Quentin Willson, investigated various means of reducing the cost of running a motor vehicle, including reports on Bio-Diesel , LPG as well as some simple driving tips, as we list on this site.

Diesel Power Tuning's DPT Economy Tuning unit was also one of the key products featured. Quentin WIllson has had 2 units fitted to his vehicle's including the Range Rover TDV8 tuned on the programme, fitted at Paramount Performance one of our DPT authorised installers. In the show Quentin Willson explained how his initial test drive was showing an early indication of economy improvement from under 24mpg to over 30mpg. He has written about the DPT diesel economy tuning unit in his Sunday Mirror column on several ocassions and each time he has provided a glowing report of the impact of DPT on his vehicles performance and fuel economy.  The ITV Tonight website quotes the following about DPT ;

This was the device that got presenter Quentin Willson smiling like the Cheshire cat with double cream and sprinkles.
It’s an electronic engine management gizmo, but enough of the science. It costs about £300, you can fit it yourself, and it can improve fuel economy by up to 15%.

Quentin Willson Endorsement

posted Sunday, 15th June 2008

Quentin Willson, who has been evaluating a DPT unit on one of his private vehicles a 2.7 Jaguar XJ, provided a glowing report on DPT and its technology in his Sunday Mirror column on 15th June 2008.

The article read as follows;

Graham Nash of Cheltenham says that he's heard of electronic add-ons for diesel engines that can increase power and fuel economy. Do they work, how much do they cost and where can you get them?

Quentin Says: If you've got a diesel motor, you'll be hurting at £1.30 a litre, but I can offer a crumb of comfort.

I've just put a plug-in diesel performance unit into my Jag XJ oil-burner, and seen a significant increase in power and flexibility.

The bit you need to know is that it added another five miles to every gallon.

I've been tooling around with it for the last 3,000 miles, and regularly saw 650 miles a tankful.

It took me 10 minutes to fit and just plugs into the wiring loom. At around £300 they used to look expensive, but with the rocketing price of derv it won't be long before you've handsomely repaid your investment.

Subsequently on 22nd June He Wrote;

More news on the DPT economy module I told you about last week. I've now had one fitted to my oil-burning Range Rover and early indications suggest that economy has improved from 23.4mpg to 29.8mpg.

If I drive like Sister Wendy, I can get the trip to nudge over 30. Given the remarkable results I've had on my Jag as well, it looks like this £300 black box will pay for itself in less than a year at today's derv prices.

As far as I'm concerned, It is the only diesel economy device that really works.
