The DPT unit, Vehcle specific wiring loom, warrenty form, Programmed and fitted,
If you buy on line full fitting instructions will be provided
Whilst the DPT Chip Tuning product can, like the others be supplied by courier and DIY fitted the key is that by using one of our installers, if you have a Common Rail Engine, you can have the box personalised to your driving style and requirements (within the vehicle tolerance limits). The DPT is a Dutch engineered and manufactured product. All our installers have direct access to the designers and manufacturers of the diesel tuning system. The manufacturer has a pedigree in developing excellence in diesel performance. This pedigree extends to Formula 1 and Formula 3000. In the Netherlands these units have been approved by 38 Mercedes Benz dealerships to fit the diesel tuning chip.
Because of the very high compression ratio of diesel engines, typically ove 20:1, the cylinders contain more air than is need for normal operating conditions. By slightly increasing the pressure at which the fuel is injected we make better use of ALL the air available which dramatically increases both the power and torque. As a consequence of this the engine is operating more efficiently, so less throttle is required for any given set of driving conditions, hence the engine uses less fuel and is both more economical and consequently emits less CO2. So your Diesel tuning chip provides better power, torque and improved MPG and CO2.
The modern diesel engine relies upon many sensors within the engine control system to determine how the engine performs and alters its parameters to suit certain conditions, such as; idle, full throttle, heavy load. These sensor signals are all processed many thousands of times a second by the engine's on board computer which which then makes alterations to keep it running at full efficiency.
Because of the very high compression ratio of diesel engines, typically 20:1, the cylinders contain more air than is needed for normal operating conditions. By slightly increasing the pressure at which fuel is injected we make better use of ALL the air available which dramatically increases both power and torque. Also because the engine is now operating more efficiently you will need to use less throttle for the same conditions, hence the engine is more fuel economical.
Saving Fuel is the key reason for buying DPT. This is why we have been successful in attracting fleet business where high mileage vehicles have very quick payback on the cost of DPT and savings can be quite significant over the life of the vehicle. Also DPT can then be transferred to subsequent vehicles.
Increased torque means driving will require fewer gear changes and result in lower fuel consumption, typically a 5-10% improvement can be expected. Coupled with a high flow air filter and a fuel treatment the benefit will be enhanced further. In some cases DPT has been programmed to provide up to 16% savings in fuel, making it a potentially major cost saving option for higher mileage drivers.
The VM has many different factors to consider preparing vehicles and engine variants to suit varying international markets and other global factors;
Climate - of destination countries can vary between –40c to +50c, climate conditions can greatly affect performance and this has to be taken into account
Fuel quality - manufacturers have no control over fuel quality in the country where the vehicle is used, they have to make allowances to cater for variations.
Servicing – Not everyone services their vehicle on a regular basis, so manufacturers have to allow for the operation of poorly serviced vehicles. For the best MPG performance diesel vehicles should be serviced regularly.
Development costs – Most manufacturers develop one engine and de tune it to offer a wide range of power output options, to save massive amounts of money in the development stage.
Marketing – Many manufacturers refresh the flagging sales of a particular model, by offering a NEW higher-powered model, or increased MPG model, in many cases this is achieved by no more than reprogramming the engine management system.
So your vehicle for example may have the power output reduced to comply with a specific requirement in one of the VMs key markets. Thus you purchase a vehicle capable of achieving far more BHP and Torque without ANY compromise to the integrity of the engine. Also VMs fit the same engines into various different vehicles and do not specifically tune for each one DPT achieves optimum tuning for your engine / vehicle combination. Also most other European countries have stricter emission controls than the UK and tune their engines accordingly. Better performance in terms of BHP, Torque and MPG are achievable if the engine is tuned by the DPT unit.
Certain manufacturers do indeed offer upgrades as an optional extra e.g. Mitsubishi. BMW offer their "Efficient Dynamics" package which again increases BHP , Torque and improves MPG with reduced CO2. But none of these bear favourable as a price comparison to DPT and are not portable in the same way as DPT is.
These examples do clearly demonstrate though that the VMs are comfortable with the concept of increasing the power of their engines. As of course are Mercedes Benz who in the Netherlands have authorised many of their official dealer network to fit DPT units.
No, the unit simply enables your engine to develop more power & torque, which are contained within the Vehicle Manufacturers tolerance levels so there is absolutely no possibility of damaging your engine. Think of DPT as improving engine "efficiency".
No the DPT connects between the original ECU and the injection system of your car. The DPT intercepts the data coming from the original unit, re-calculates and optimises the data before sending the modified parameters to the pump.
This is why so many opt for DPT instead of a ReMap or a Piggy-Back chip neither of which can be transferred over to another vehicle or sold on by the user.
The diesel tuning DPT unit may simply be unplugged at any point in time and your vehicle will immediately return to its standard settings & performance.
Some of our installer will include a fuse on PD units so once removed the unit is in off mode. You would need to ask the installer specifically to do this for you.
There are many products similar to this on the marketplace, one of the key issues with the DPT is that all Common Rail units can be tailored to suit your personal driving style or what you would like to get from your vehicle (within your vehicles tolerance limits) this can only be achieved by visiting one of our installers. If you buy as a plug & play you get a great unit at excellent value for money, but you only get the personalisation by visiting one of our installers. Also all our installers are Diesel specialists who can provide excellent advice on how to achieve the best from your vehicle dependent upon what you wish to achieve based upon your driving requirements.
No, the unit does not modify your vehicle in any way
As a DIY job this will be about 10-30 minutes. We provide excellent instructions most of which include pictures to aid fitting. At an installer this will take less time unless you decide to have the tuning personalised e.g. to optimise the vehicle for towing a caravan. An installer can of course allow you to road test your vehicle and tweak setting to suit exactly what you want from your vehicle.
There are exceptions to this and some vehicles are more complex to install. Your installer should be able to give you an indication before starting the job, simply by reviewing the installation instructions.
The unit comes with a technical helpline number. Or speak to your local installer if you bought it direct. We will always work with you to ensure your DPT is fitted to your satisfaction
.
Whilst you will immediately feel the additional torque when driving, the only way to quantify the BHP is to have your vehicle put on a rolling road (dynamometer test). We specifically identify installers who can offer this facility and where your local one does not they or we will be able to identify a local source that does.
Two years if you purchase for DIY fit
Three years if you have the unit fitted by one of our official installers
Each unit has a unique serial number and a warranty form, which should be returned to the address on the card to register the warranty. Whilst the warranty is 2 or 3 years there is no reason why you should not achieve many more than this and your unit can be transferred to your next vehicle, if has the same type of diesel engine.
Vehicle manufacturers cannot invalidate a warranty for having a DPT diesel engine tuning device fitted. We strictry tune within the VMs vehicle parameters. In the unliely even that DPT causes any problems which the VM prove to be due to DPT and will not cover under warranty we have an insurance backed warranty with up to £ 2 million worth of cover to protect you.
DPT diesel engine tuning is not even an engine modification. It is a retrofit that can be switched off or removed, it does not compromise the integrity of the vehicle. Your ECU is not being re-mapped like many other upgrade options which change the ECU software or put a piggy back chip on the the actual ECU.
In the Netherlands where the units were designed and are manufactured 38 Mercedes Benz franchised dealerships fit these units in their Mercedes Benz workshops. DPT is similarly fitted by Kia & Hyundai dealerships in the Netherlands.
Increased airflow will improve engine performance and increase fuel economy . A filter such as the K&N which we can supply will help achieve high air flow. We sell all K&N filters at 5% off K&N RRP. If you require a unit simply select at checkout to "express an interest", we will advise you by return e-mail the price and you may then make a decision about making a purchase.
An Additive used periodically cleans and lubricates the fuel system, particularly the injectors improving performance and fuel consumption.
We always recommend you advise your insurer of any change in your vehicle or personal driving circumstances. DPT is now a recognised product with NIG, Norwich Union, Zurich and Fortis Insurance, someof the worlds largest insurers.
